WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2021
The Illinois Back to Business Grant Program offers small businesses access to funds that can help offset losses due to COVID-19, bring back workers, and continue to rebuild from the pandemic.
The grants range in size from $5,000 to $150,000. Priority is being given to hardest-hit industries, Disproportionately Impacted Areas (DIAs), businesses who have yet to qualify for previous state or federal assistance, and businesses with less than $5 million in revenue before the pandemic in 2019.
|What are the benefits of fiscal sponsorship? And what are the risks with fiscal sponsorship? Attend this session to learn what fiscal sponsorship is and why coalitions and collaborations can benefit from them. Attorneys with Chapman & Cutler will describe the IRS requirements of fiscal sponsors, how those requirements frame the relationship with the sponsored agency, and the components that can be included in a fiscal sponsor agreement, including control and decision-making, insurance, employees and compensation, and financial reporting. Finally, gain insight into practical considerations for establishing a healthy relationship with a fiscal sponsor, and when it is time to incorporate and apply for income tax exemption. |
If you are interested in learning more about the collaboration aspects of fiscal sponsorships and back office services generally, check out Mission Sustainability Initiative at Forefront’s webinar on September 30th.
This is the second webinar in our training series, Advocacy By The Book, geared towards local grassroots organizations navigating thorny legal questions. Our first webinar, Legal and Compliance Issues for Grassroots Groups that Engage in Organizing or Policy Advocacy, was held on July 28 and you can view the recording here. As mentioned in the webinar, the Chicago Lobbying Ordinance is currently delayed indefinitely, and you can click here to read our Lobbying Registration FAQs.
If you would like to perform at the 79th Street Renaissance Festival Crawl, please send a video or sound recording of you or your choir to email@example.com with “#79RenFest Gospel Showcase” in the subject line. More information to come.
|Selecting the right legal structure for your business is one of the first and most important decisions entrepreneurs must make. The legal entity an entrepreneur selects will impact many critical aspects of the business such as its ability to raise capital, how the company will be managed, its tax treatment, and liability protection for its managers. |
This webinar will cover forming and changing a legal entity and the advantages and disadvantages of various business structures, including when it makes sense to incorporate a business as a sole proprietor. The webinar will also cover the meaning and purpose of many commonly used contract terms to help entrepreneurs better understand how written terms affect legal rights and contract negotiations.
