As Woodstock Research Director Spencer Cowan puts it, “It’s the same map.”

At our Economic Justice Awards event this year we want to talk about the fact that mortgage lending in Chicago follows the ‘tale of two–unequal–cities’ narrative we see in health, education and other indicators,

Since the 1980s, we have analyzed mortgage lending and other data from across the Chicago region. At our event, we’ll offer a preview of what Cowan has found from aggregating 36 years of that data. Join us to learn more and discuss how to change the map for mortgage lending and other indicators so opportunities are available to all Chicagoans, regardless of where they live.

Our event will also honor state Senator Jacqueline Collins with Woodstock Institute’s Scheinfeld Award for her lifetime of achievements, and advocate Kesha Warren, and feature Illinois state Senate President Don Harmon and Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch.     The event is free to attend. Donations are welcomed, and sponsorships are available.
