This means that to afford a two-bedroom home without paying more than 30% of their income on housing costs, a person earning our state minimum wage ($8.25 per hour) must work <strong><span style=\"color: #21314d;\">99 hours per week<\/span><\/strong> just to make ends meet.<\/p>\n<p>This Housing Wage is shared in <a href=\"https:\/\/salsa3.salsalabs.com\/dia\/track.jsp?v=2&amp;c=q52cEGaZA%2F%2BrcpHjBAlSL8k4%2BMfPtqp0\">Out of Reach 2018<\/a>, a national report co-released today in Illinois by Housing Action Illinois and the National Low Income Housing Coalition.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-381 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/themonroefoundation.org\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/stats-600px.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/themonroefoundation.org\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/stats-600px.jpg 600w, https:\/\/themonroefoundation.org\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/stats-600px-300x238.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #21314d;\">\u201cEvery legislator should be talking about the fact that nowhere in Illinois can a full-time minimum wage worker afford rent,\u201d<\/span><\/strong> says Sharon Legenza, Executive Director of Housing Action Illinois. \u201cAnd every candidate seeking an elected office should have a plan for how to change this. Housing should be a source of stability, not insecurity. Voters deserve to know how our elected officials intend to make sure that every one of their constituents has a good, affordable place to call home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report includes the Housing Wage for every county in Illinois.
